Objective: This study aimed to determine the clinical value of air- and bone-conduction auditory brainstem responses (ABRs) in children with congenital external auditory canal atresia (EACA). Methods: Air- and bone-conduction click-evoked ABRs in 38 children having congenital EACA were compared with 34 children having normal hearing. Results: ABR threshold for air and bone conduction were 66.53 ± 7.12 and 12.55 ± 6.96 dBnHL, respectively, in children with congenital EACA, as well as 25.32 ± 2.66 and 10.71 ± 4.51 dBnHL, respectively, in children with normal hearing. The two groups showed statistical difference in air-conduction ABR thresholds. Meanwhile, air–bone ABR threshold gap was greater in children with EACA than in children with normal hearing, and bone-conduction ABR wave latencies did not statistically differ between the two groups.

Background: Buccal mucosa carcinoma represents 3 to 5% of oral-cavity cancer. Retromolar buccal trigon affected in one third of patients with buccal mucosal cancers. Squamous cell carcinoma is the commonest pathological finding. Aim: The research was designed to study suitability of submental island flap and radial forearm free flap (RFFF) as one stage reconstructive procedure after resection of large retromolar-trigonal cancers. And to assess locoregional recurrence and disease free survival after adjuvant treatment.

Introduction: The loss of laryngeal voice after total laryngectomy can have an impact on the quality of life and communication of affected individuals. Postoperative phonatory methods may promote advantages in oral communication and reduce the functional, organic and emotional changes experienced by the patients. On this basis, the objective of the present study was to review the literature in order to determine the impact on the quality of life of total laryngectomees according to the form of rehabilitation chosen after the procedure and to identify the protocols most frequently used to assess the quality of life of these individuals.

Objective: To investigate the effects of uncorrected nasal septal deviation on the pyriform aperture (PA) dimensions, the upper anterior face height (UAFH), and the anteroposterior length of the maxilla (LM) of adult patients. Methods: The study included 150 patients (104 males, 46 females; 18-63 years) who had paranasal sinus CT. The study population consisted of 51 patients with anterior nasal septal deviation (NSD) (group I), 72 patients with posterior NSD (group II) and 27 patients with no NSD (group III). By using multi planar reconstruction (MPR) technique, on coronal plane the width of PA (PAW), the right and left maxilla spinal length (RMSL and LMSL) and the angle of the septal deviation (ASD) and on sagittal plane the height of the PA (PAH), the UAFH and the LM were measured.

Importance: Surgicel is an effective hemostat either for intra or post-operative bleedings, but should be used cautiously in the case of tonsillectomy. Some surgeons choose to leave pieces of surgicel in the tonsils bed for a continuous haemostatic effect. The material when left in the tonsils fossa is no different than other foreign body and put the patient in a significant risk of suffocation.
